COIMBATORE: Collector GS Sameeran presented a check for Rs 2 lakh to family members of rickshaw driver Kadhar Meeran (41) who succumbed to Covid after receiving treatment for more than three weeks in a private city hospital.
Suleeswaranpatti’s family in Pollachi have lost their breadwinner and are reeling from the debt of Rs 9 lakh borrowed for his treatment, which cost them a total of Rs 14.5 lakh.
As the family exhausted all of their resources, they decided to sell their house to meet clear debt. TNIE released a report on the family situation on Wednesday. On Thursday, the collector presented the family with a check to meet their debts to the collector’s discretionary fund. Kadhar Meeran’s wife, Samsath Begam, and son Salman, who is in his final year of college, have been invited to come to the Collectorate.
The collector also spoke to the private hospital, where Kadhar Meeran was treated and asked them to reduce the bill by Rs 1 lakh.
Hospital staff returned Rs 1 lakh in the form of a check to the family in the presence of the collector. Also, the collector said he made a recommendation for help from the Chief Minister’s Family Relief Fund.
